Chapter. Valuation and design for economic and social value creation
Abstract: The quality assessment of projects is becoming increasingly relevant in the estimative discipline, aiming at a greater control of the design effects of real estate interventions. If from an estimation point of view real estate development processes are traditionally linked to a concept of economic value creation, the current context requires reflections that also consider the assessment and creation of other values, arising from environmental, social, and cultural needs. In this context, the aim of the paper is to reflect on how the application of the estimative discipline to the field of design can support the development of sustainable architectural projects, reflecting on the centrality of values in the development of the project. In this sense, the paper intends to schematize which values should be considered, estimated, and evaluated in the ex-novo and transformation processes, giving exemplifications of the potential action of the architectural project on the space for the creation of these values. The reflection is carried out on economic and social values as a first step of a research that can be expanded to other specific values of the architectural context. Resumen.
